To My Father
I remember your eyes
almost shut.
Your barely smile...
The words that i wanted to tell you,
that i never said.
Your strength, the stifled pain,
your unhappiness behind a smiling mask,
i remember your loyalty.
Your love not always understood.
Your life lessons,
sometimes exaggerated,
Your reproofs.
I remember the pride in your eyes
when you talked about us,
Your happiness in seeing us.
I remember the values
that you have passed on,
Your desire to play and live,
and maybe even to die.
I
Would...
I
would have liked to take your hands
to give you some more time
to keep you here and not let you go.
I would have liked to be your mind
to give you joyful thoughts
and make you smile again.
I would have liked to be your heart
to make it fly again
scanning beats of love.
I would have liked to be your eyes
to teach you to look
so you can see the "still" much to see.
I would have liked to be your soul
to make you feel the life
and dispossess death.
But i could not...
because your soul was
already dead. |
